Human rights organisation Odhikar’s Adilur jailed for two years

Online desk: Two officials of Odhikar, a local human rights organisation, have been jailed for two years in a case filed under the ICT Act for publishing an alleged distorted report on Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh rally at Shapla Chattar in 2013.
The convicts are Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and Director ASM Nasiruddin Elan.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000.
Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfiqar Hayat pronounced the judgement at about 2:45pm in presence of the accused.
In 2013, Odhikar published a report on its website that claimed 61 people were killed at Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka.
DB police filed the case against the two Odhikar officials on charge of publishing the distorted report.
