Helena Jahangir’s bail prayer rejected

 

Bangladesh desk: High Court has rejected a bail prayer of former Awami League leader Helena Jahangir in a case filed against her under the Digital Security Act.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Huque and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order on Tuesday (Oct 12).

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Helena Jahangir after conducting a raid at her residence at House No. 5, Road No. 36 at about 12:00 at night on July 29 last. At that time, foreign liquor, illegal walkie-talkies, knives, foreign currencies, casino equipment and deer hides were seized from her residence.

Helena Jahangir was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on July 30 last. Later, Gulshan police inspector (Operations) Sheikh Shahanur Rahman pleaded to the court to place her on a five-day remand.

On the other hand, her lawyer pleaded for bail cancelling the remand order.

After holding the hearing on both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakesh Chowdhury placed her on a three-day remand rejecting her bail prayer.
