Helena denied bail in fraudulent case

Bangladesh desk: A court in Dhaka on Wednesday rejected bail to expelled Awami League leader Helena Jahangir in a fraudulent case filed with Mirpur Police Station.

Helena’s lawyer Shafiqul Islam filed the bail petition this morning which was rejected after hearing.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim delivered the order.

On Tuesday, Helena Jahangir received bail in an extortion case upon a bond of Tk 2,000.
A court placed Helena Jahangir on 14-day remand on August 3 last in four separate cases. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman placed her on a total of eight-day remand in the fraudulent case and an extortion case lodged with Pallabi Police Station.

On the other hand, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy placed her on a six-day remand in two cases filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Digital Security Act (DSA) and Narcotics Control Act.

Helena Jahangir was placed on a three-day remand on July 30 in the DSA case.

Earlier, at night on July 29, RAB said that they seized ‘huge quantity’ of foreign liquor, equipment for casino gambling, walkie-talkie and knives from Helena Jahangir’s Gulshan flat. The elite force also raided Helena’s Joyjatra Foundation office and Joyjatra Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) office at Mirpur on the same night.

Afterward, a press release was issued relieving Helena Jahangir from her member post in the Awami League women affairs sub-committee.
