A group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student association organisation of the ruling Awami League, attacked a rally led by Gono Odhikar Parishad faction president Nurul Haque Nur on Dhaka University campus Wednesday afternoon.

At least 10 leaders and activists of GOP and its students’ organisation Chhatra Odhikar Parishad were injured in the attack near Dhaka University’s TSC premises at about 4:45pm.

Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad brought out the rally from Shahbagh intersection and was scheduled to end at Anti-terrorism Raju Memorial sculpture on DU campus through a brief rally to protest against arrest of the student organisation’s president by law enforcers by breaking open the door of Nur’s house at the night following Tuesday.

However, leaders and activists of Chhatra League took position at the Raju Sculpture ground from 3.30 pm.

Witnesses said that the BCL activists swooped on the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad procession as it reached near Raju sculpture and left at least 10 activists of Odhikar Parishad.

The attackers beat Nur and his fellows mercilessly, they said and added that Nur’s fellows then took Nur away from the spot by a rickshaw.

Neither the president nor the general secretary of DU unit of BCL could be reached for comments even after several attempts after the incident.
