Free, fair elections not possible under AL Govt: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Desk: Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said that no free and fair elections were possible under the Awami League government.
The BNP leader said this at a human chain formed in front of the National Press Club jointly by Dhaka city north and south units of the party.
Fakhrul said, ‘We believe that no free and fair elections would be held if the government of Sheikh Hasina remains in power. So, we want a general election under a neutral government and election commission.’
The human chain demanded cancellation of Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 election results, withdrawal of cases filed against BNP leaders and activists, and release of the BNP activists who had been arrested on charges of setting fire on buses in Dhaka on Thursday.
BNP Dhaka south unit president Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel chaired the event where, among others, central leaders of the party Aman Ullah Aman, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, Abul Bashar, Habibur Rahman Habib, Mostafizur Rahman Babul, and Syed Emran Saleh Prince were present.
