BNP leader Fakhrul, Abbas denied bail

Bangladesh desk: A court in Dhaka on Monday rejected bail pleas of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas in a case filed over the clashes between police and BNP men in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on December 7.

The court also rejected bail petitions of 222 other BNP leaders and activists in the same case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin passed the order after defence lawyers moved separate petitions submitted for seeking bail in the case
Pro-BNP lawyers were seen chanting slogans against the government soon after the ordered delivered by the court.
On December 9, Fakhrul and Abbas were picked up by law enforcers from their homes around 3:00am.
Later, they were shown arrested in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act with  Paltan police station over the clashes in Nayapaltan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Fakhrul and Abbas to jail in the case on the same day, rejecting their bail petition.
