DSA case filed against Murad for indecent remarks on women

Bangladesh desk: A leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday filed a case under Digital Security Act against disgraced Awami League lawmaker and former state minister for information and broadcasting, Murad Hassan, with a Rajshahi court for his alleged indecent remarks on women, especially on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s granddaughter Zaima Rahman.
Saiful Islam, a former general secretary of the Bogura Bar Association and senior joint convener of the district BNP, filed the case against two persons including Murad with Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal.
Saiful Islam said that he filed the case against Murad Hassan and presenter Sheikh Mohiuddin Helal under the DSA act since Murad Hassan, taking part in a virtual talk-show with Sheikh Mohiuddin Helal, made obscene and indecent remarks about Zaima.
He said that the tribunal recorded the case but did not issue any order.
Rajshahi city BNP former general secretary Shafiqul Haque Milon, Rajshahi Bar Association general secretary Parvez Tawfiq Zahidi and leaders of Bogra and Rajshahi Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum were also present in the court.
In a social media interview on December 4, Murad made derogatory and abusive remarks about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and Tarique’s daughter Zaima Rahman.
A phone conversation of the junior minister with actor Emon and actress Mahia Mahi recently went viral on social media.
In that audio clip, Murad made ‘derogatory comments’ about the actress, threatened her and gave her an indecent proposal.
Md Murad Hassan of the Awami League on December 7 resigned as a state minister amid protests and condemnation from various political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, for his derogatory remarks about women.
Hours after his resignation, the Jamalpur district unit of the Awami League relieved him of his post of health and population affairs secretary in the unit for his abusive remarks.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission officials said on December 9 that the Facebook had so far removed 94 links related to derogatory and abusive remarks of Murad Hassan on women.
