COVID-19 infections hit 2.85 lakh, death toll 3,781 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh recorded 41 more COVID-19 deaths and 2,747 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours ending at 8:00am Wednesday.
With the figures, the death toll from coronavirus rose to 3,781 and the detected cases hit 2,85,091 in the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
It said in a release that 14,678 samples were tested in the past 24 hours across the country and 18.72 per cent of them or 2,747 were found positive for COVID-19.
Among the 41 new deaths, 34 were males and seven were females.
Among them, 24 were aged above 60 years, 11 were between 51-60 years, five were between 41-50 years and one was between 31-40 years.
Of them, 21 died in Dhaka division, seven died in Khulna division, while Chattogram, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Barishal division witnessed three deaths each and Mymensingh division witnessed one death.
Among the deceased, three died at home.
Since May 17, at least 592 COVID-19 patients died at their homes and 31 died on the way to hospitals as most of the coronavirus patients are ignoring hospitals.
On Wednesday, 4,614 COVID-19 patients were taking treatment at hospitals, including 326 in ICUs while 1,10,958 were taking treatment at home.
As of Wednesday, 165,738 Covid-19 patients were declared recovered, including 2,913 in the past 24 hours.
Bangladesh registered the first COVID-19 cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
The country is now on its 24th week of infection.
The overall rate of infection in Bangladesh stood now at 20.46 per cent, which makes the country one of the top 10 countries with the highest coronavirus infection rate in the world.
The rate of infection in the 24th week is now 20.38 per cent.
The rate of infection in the 23rd week decreased to 21.08 per cent from 23.84 per cent in the 22nd week, which was the highest COVID-19 infection rate in any week in Bangladesh.
The rate of infection was 22.21 per cent in the 21st week and 22.81 per cent in the 19th week.
