CA returns from BIMSTEC Summit with renewed regional commitments

Bangladesh deks: Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus returned to Dhaka on Friday night following a two-day official visit to Bangkok, where he actively participated in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and engaged in several high-level meetings.

His flight, operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:05 PM (Bangladesh time), according to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

He had earlier departed Suvarnabhumi Airport at 8:45 PM (Bangkok time), with Thai Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai seeing him off.

During the summit, Bangladesh officially assumed the chairmanship of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) for the next two years, taking over from Thailand.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Yunus emphasized the need for an inclusive, action-driven approach to regional cooperation, reaffirming Bangladesh’s dedication to enhancing economic and technical collaboration among member states.

The Chief Adviser also held bilateral discussions with several regional leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on strengthening multilateral ties within the Bay of Bengal region.

BIMSTEC is a regional group comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, aimed at fostering connectivity, trade, and sustainable development among the nations bordering the Bay of Bengal.
