The incident took place around 4am on Sunday
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has shot a Bangladesh national dead after he entered Indian territory near Thakurpur border in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.
The incident took place around 4am on Sunday.
The deceased is Omidul Islam, 22, a resident of Thakurpur under the upazila.
Locals and the victim’s family said a group of six to seven people, including Omidul, went to India’s Hudapara village near the demarcation pillar number 89 to buy cattle heads early Sunday.
A patrol team of Hudapara BSF camp opened fire on them around 4am when they were returning home.
Omidul received bullet-wounds and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene, they said.
The BSF personnel took the body to their camp.
Lt Col Mohammad Khalekuzzaman, director of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 6 in Chuadanga, said they will send a letter to the BSF protesting the incident and asking them to return the body.
The latest killing in the border area took place just a month after BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana reiterated the assurance that border deaths would be brought down to zero.
