BNP expresses concern over extrajudicial killings

Bangladesh Desk: The standing committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party expressed concern over the killing of former army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in police firing on July 31, and extrajudicial killings and murders in police custody in past five years.
A press release issued by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that the standing committee expressed its concern in a meeting on Saturday evening.
It said that the standing committee expressed deep concern over the increasing number of killings by the law enforcement agencies, especially by the police, violating human rights and that the party will organise a press conference over the issue.
The release also alleged that false cases, arrest and harassment using the Digital Security Act had increased and the law was being used to curb freedom of expression and independence of media and to suppress dissenting opinions.
The party will organise a press conference also over the issue soon, the release said and added that the government was using the act to stay in power undemocratically and to establish a one-party rule.
