BNP demands inquiry over student’s death falling into Ctg drain

BNP Chattogram city unit convener Shahadat Hossain on Thursday meets the family of university student Sehrin Mahbub Sadia who died after falling in a roadside drain at Agrabad Badamtoli in Chattogram city Monday night.

BNP Chattogram city unit convener Shahadat Hossain demanded this while meeting Sadia’s family on Thursday afternoon.
Shahadat Hossain said, ‘We lost Sehrin due to the negligence of concerned authorities. It was not a normal death but killing. We demand judicial inquiry into the death.’
‘There is no accountability today as the government was not elected by the people. They have no responsibility to the people. It is the responsibility of the entire government. Chattogram City Corporation and Chattogram Development Authority must take responsibility over the death of Sehrin,’ he said.
Chattogram city unit BNP member Abul Hashem Bakkar, member Gazi Siraj Ullah and Md Kamrul Islam, among others, were present at the time.
Sehrin, daughter of Mohammad Ali of Boropole of Halishahar and a first-year honours student of the computer science department at International Islamic University in Chittagong, went missing after falling into a roadside drain at Agrabad Badamtali at about 10:20pm on Monday while she was returning home after buying glasses with her uncle. Fire service recovered Sehrin’s body on Tuesday 3:20am.
On August 25, a 50-year-old man went missing after falling into a roadside drain at Muradpur in the port city and as of Tuesday, the man has still remained missing despite several drives since then.
On June 30, two people died after drowning in a drain as their CNG-run auto-rickshaw fell into it at Sholashahar in the port city.
