Bhairab train collision: Fire Service forms another 5-members probe body

Bangladesh desk: A five-member committee was formed to investigate the deadly train accident at Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj district on Monday afternoon that left at least 20 dead and scores injured.

Headed by Lt Col Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director (Operations and Maintenance) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, the committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days,  Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell, said this morning.

The other members of the committee are: Md Masud Sardar, assistant director of Mymensingh Fire Service (Member Secretary); Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, deputy director of Narsingdi Fire Service (Member); Md Enamul Haque, deputy director of  Kishoreganj Fire Service (Member); and Md Azizul Haque, station officer, Bhairab Bazar fire service station (Member).

Earlier on Monday night, three separate committees were formed to investigate the train accident.

At least 20 people were dead and several were injured on Monday when a cargo train rammed into two bogies of a passenger train at Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj district on Monday.

The accident occurred at 3:50 pm when the cargo train hit the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Godhuli Express, coming from Kishoreganj. The passenger train was standing on the outer tracks on its way to Dhaka from the port city of Chottogram.

The rescue operation was declared complete at 3:30 am today after three carriages that overturned in the accident were removed from the line.
