Bangladesh High Court seeks list of dual citizens by February 28

The High Court on Monday asked the immigration authorities of Bangladesh to submit a list of dual citizens by February 28.

The online bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel on a suo moto ruling issued the directive.

Anti Corruption Commission lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan hailed the directive.

Khurshid told New Age that the new ruling would help ACC get more information about corruption suspects.

The court asked the police superintendent of the special branch at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the immigration police in Sylhet and Chattogram international airports to prepare the list.

The same High Court bench earlier on December 17 granted the government and the ACC fresh time until February 28 for submitting detailed reports on those involved in siphoning money abroad, including to Canada, the USA and Australia.

The court had rebuked the ACC after it submitted a report with a list of 47 money laundering cases in which it submitted charge sheets and 88 other money laundering cases which were under investigation.

The foreign ministry in a report to the court on December 14 said that the Bangladesh mission in Canada ‘has been instructed to furnish information on the names and address of the persons who are alleged in the money laundering in Canada on an urgent basis.’
