ASA founder Shafiqual Haque dies

Bangladesh Desk: Non-government organisation ASA founder and president Md. Shafiqual Haque Choudhury died at a city hospital on Friday.
He died at the early hour of the day at Square Hospital in Dhaka of acute cardiac shock, according to a notice posted on ASA website.
Shafiqual,72, is survived by wife and three sons.
Shafiqual served as an adviser to the ministry of agriculture, youth, sports and cultural affairs of the caretaker government of Bangladesh during 2006-2007.
Members of ASA government body, ASA general body and employees of the organisation expressed deep shock at his death and condolence to the bereaved family.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra Founder Zafrullah Chowdhury also condoled at the death of the ASA founder.
The non-profit organisation in a statement said that Shafiqual’s body was kept at the ASA Headquarter in Dhaka’s Shyamoli.
He will be buried after Jummah prayers at the Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard.
Shafiqual established ASA (Association for Social Advancement) in 1978 at a remote village Tapra, under the then Manikganj sub-division about 80 kilometers away from the capital Dhaka with a mission to welfare of the poor.
