WA Premier Mark McGowan has described Cleo Smith as a “delightful little girl” after he met the four-year-old and her family in Carnarvon following the little girl’s dramatic rescue on Tuesday.

“It was a lovely experience to meet her,” he said.

“She was, I felt very well-adjusted .. and the family were very appreciative of everything that had been done for them.

“[They are] fundamentally decent, honest human beings, they were lovely people and it was great to meet them and acknowledge what they have been through.”

Mr McGowan, who arrived in the coastal town bearing two teddy bears, one for Cleo and the other for her baby sister Isla, spent some time with the family at their home.

He said the family was doing well.

“We have a way to go from here, but they are on the right pathway,” Mr McGowan said.

“[They are] very grateful for everything that the police have done … normal people that had no complaints, they had no demands.

“I said to them, there are so many resources here to help you, whatever they need, they knew that.

“They were nice people. They weren’t difficult at all.”

“[Cleo] has done a bit of sleeping and a lot of eating, a lot of lying around and cuddling, just connecting [as]  parents with their little daughters.”
