Victoria records COVID-19 case north of Melbourne after man leaves SA hotel quarantine

Victorian health authorities are urgently investigating how a returned traveller who completed his hotel quarantine in South Australia became infected with COVID-19.

- Any Victorian with the slightest COVID-19 symptoms is being urged to get tested
Health authorities said the man, who is aged in his 30s, arrived in Victoria last Tuesday and went to his home at Wollert, north of Melbourne, developing symptoms on Saturday.
“He got tested yesterday, 10 May, and returned a positive result this morning,” the health department said in a statement.
“Further testing has been urgently arranged to confirm the diagnosis.
“Until that time, the Department is treating this as a positive case and acting accordingly.”

The department said the man was being interviewed and exposure sites were still being verified.
It said further testing was being arranged for the man to provide additional confirmation of the positive result.
His household primary close contacts were also going into quarantine, being interviewed and would be urgently tested, the department said.

“The department is working with interstate counterparts to determine the likely source of this infection,” the statement said.
Health authorities reinforced the importance of getting tested if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 such as a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, chills or sweats, or a change in sense of smell or taste.
