Sydney CBD cluster continues to grow, with 28 COVID-19 cases now linked to outbreak

NSW Health has reported seven new COVID-19 cases, five of which are connected to the Sydney CBD outbreak.

The city cluster, centred around the City Tattersalls Club on Pitt Street, has now reached 28 positive cases.

Of the five new cluster cases today, one is a household contact of an existing case, another two had visited the club.

Of the overall cases, one is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine and the other is under investigation.

NSW Health yesterday extended its alert about the club. People visiting its fitness centre on August 19, 21 and 23-25 need to immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days.

Anyone who attended the club between August 4 and 18 needs to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative test result.

Across Sydney, new locations have been added to the growing list of venues and institutions linked to COVID-19 cases.

St Pauls Catholic College in Greystanes in Western Sydney will be closed for cleaning tomorrow after a student tested positive.

A staff member at the Surry Hills Police Cells Complex has also tested positive.

NSW deputy chief health officer Jeremy McAnulty said the department, Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, were taking “appropriate health and safety measures”.

“Contact tracing has been undertaken and the staff member is isolating,” he said.

A homewares store in the Broadway shopping centre in central Sydney is also closed today after a customer tested positive for COVID-19.

The person visited the House store on August 24 at 2:00pm.

Anyone who also went to the store at that time needs to monitor for symptoms.

There are also new alerts for venues including:

• Virgin Active Pitt Street gym for August 25 from 5:00pm to 6.30pm
• Virgin Active Margaret Street gym for August 26 from 5:10pm to 6:40pm
• The Highfield Caringbah bar for August 22 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm
• The Caringbah Hotel for August 22 from 8:30pm to 11pm

People who visited these venues need to monitor for symptoms.

Health authorities carried out 19,626 tests in the 24 hours to 8:00pm last night.

There have now been 3,851 confirmed cases in the state.
