The search for a family who went missing on the morning of Christmas Day has ended in tragedy.

Three children have been found alive alongside the bodies of their parents after a desperate search for a West Australian family not heard from or seen since Christmas Day.

The three surviving children — aged five, two and two months old — are being flown to Perth for medical treatment after the family’s Land Rover Discovery was found about ten kilometres from their Kondinin home in WA’s Wheatbelt just before midday on Tuesday.

It is understood the car skidded off Corrigin-Kondinin Road and rolled into scrub, where it was hidden by trees and out of sight of passing vehicles. A family member discovered the car and alerted authorities.

Inspector Tony Vuleta, of the Wheatbelt District Office, said that by the time authorities arrived at the crash site the two older children were outside the vehicle. The infant was still inside.

All three are now being treated for non-life threatening injuries, the inspector said.

Authorities, including Major Crash investigators, are now working to piece together what triggered the devastating incident.

“An incident of this type is tragic, especially at this time of year,” Inspector Vuleta said.

“Our thoughts are with with Cindy and Jake’s family at this time.”

A plea for information was issued on Tuesday morning, with police saying the family of five had not been heard from after departing Northam about 1am on Christmas morning and revealing there was serious concerns for their welfare.

Jake Day, 28, Cindy Braddock, 25, and their three young children were headed to their home in Kondinin for Christmas.

It is unclear exactly how long the children had been in the car.

Earlier, family members took to social media to plead for the family’s safe return.

“Has anyone seen Jake Day or Cindy Braddock since Christmas day,” Braddock’s sister Helen asked.

“They left Northam to go home to Kondinin but haven’t made it home and haven’t made contact with anybody since.”

Northam is a town popular with tourists and located about 100km northeast of WA’s capital, Perth.

Kondinin is located in WA’s eastern Wheatbelt region, a little over 200km southeast of Northam and about three hours east of Perth.

Anyone with information should contact police.
