Bangladesh Desk: The police arrested two people on charge of vandalising an election office of a councilor candidate in municipal elections at Alamdanga in Chuadanga on Friday.
The arrested were Juba League activists Altaf Hossain and Rabiul Islam, residents of village Gobindapur in Alamdanga. They are supporters of independent councilor candidate M Sobed Ali, also Chuadanga district Juba League president.
Alamdanga police officer-in-charge Alamgir Kabir told New Age that they arrested the two in their respective houses in the morning.
Locals said that a group of miscreants allegedly vandalised two election offices of Sobed on Thursday night. Later, another group of miscreants led by Altaf and Rabiul vandalised an election office of Awami League-nominated councilor candidate Hasan Kadir Gonu on the same night, they said. The retaliation resulted in a clash between the supporters of Hasan and Sobed, leaving six people of the two groups injured, said witnesses. The injured were admitted to Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex for treatment, the police officer said.
Later, Hasan’s brother ASM Salahuddin filed a case with Alamdanga police station accusing 49 people, including Altaf and Rabiul, the officer added.
