Covid-19: Bangladesh records 47 deaths in 24 hours, another 2,211 test positive

Bangladesh Desk: Bangladesh has registered 47 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 4,174.
The country also logged more than 306,000 coronavirus cases with 2,211 people testing positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases has so far jumped to 306,794.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Friday.
Of the 47 deceased, including 32 men, 29 were from Dhaka division, seven from Khulna, four from Rangpur, three from Chittagong, two from Rajshahi, and one each from Barisal and Sylhet divisions.
So far, 3,274 men (78.44%) and 900 women (21.56%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.36%.
The DGHS said 13,977 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 13,741 samples were tested in the 92 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 2,211 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 16.09%.
To date, 1,514,126 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 20.26% so far.
The health authorities said 3,378 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 196,836 patients — 64.16% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 836,143 lives and infected 24,655,052 people across the world till Friday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 17,114,130 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
