Police file case against 8,000 students over stealing ammo

Bangladesh desk: A case has been filed against 8,000 students from various colleges, including Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC), over vandalising government properties and stealing magazines loaded with bullets.
Sub-Inspector AKM Hasan Mahmudul Kabir at Sutrapur Police Station in Dhaka as a plaintiff filed the case on Sunday.
Anupam Das, sub-inspector of the general registration branch of the police station, confirmed the matter on Monday (November 25).
He said the case report has been submitted to the court Monday and Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman’s court accepted the case and ordered the submission of a report by December 24.

According to the case documents, on November 24, around seven to eight thousand students of different colleges, including DMRC, equipped with weapons formed an unlawful assembly and carried out attack on and vandalized  government properties.
They are accused of damaging government property, including a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) and a police motorcycle, worth Tk 2.70 lakh and stealing magazines loaded with bullets from official firearms.
The incident has been recorded as an offense under Section 15(3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974 and relevant provisions of the Penal Code.
