Several hurt in midnight BCL attack inside VC’s residence at JU

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) beat up quota reform movement protesters inside vice-chancellor’s residence at Jahangirnagar University (JU), who took shelter there.
The attack that took place after 12am on Tuesday also left many students injured. Some of them were in critical condition.
Later, several thousand students come out from various halls at 2am and chased the BCL leaders and activists.
Students alleged that around 150 BCL men, including outsiders, wearing helmets, took part in the attack at midnight. They also equipped with arms and weapons. To avoid attack, the students then took shelter at the VC’s residence. The BCL leaders and activists threw stones at them.
The students said BCL men left the main gate of the VC’s residence as police reached the scene at around 12:15am. Later

At about 2:15am, the BCL leaders entered the VC’s residence breaking the gate lock. They hurled petrol bombs, vandalized the VC’s residence and beat up the protesters there.

The VC was inside the house during the attack.

Around 500 students from different halls brought out a procession and headed towards the VC’s residence at about 2:15am. A chase and counter chase between the protestors and police took place and, later, the police dispersed the students. The students then drove out the BCL from the scene.
