Under-19 World Cup: Bangladesh knocked out with heartbreaking defeat

Sports desk:  It is a heartbreaking for Bangladesh as they have been knocked out of the race for the semifinal in ICC Under-19 World Cup losing a dramatic match by five runs against Pakistan.

The young Tigers fell short of six runs to qualify for the last four on the target of 156 runs at Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Saturday.

Most of the Bangladeshi batters got their starts but could not extend longer to hold the innings. They were bowled out for 150 runs despite a 23-run stand in the last wicket.

Mohammad Shihab James, Rohanat Doullah Borson and Chowdhury Md Rizwan provided 26, 21 and 20 runs respectively.

Ubaid Shah was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers as he bagged five wickets that made a collapse in Bangladesh’s batting lineup. Ali Raza got three.

Earlier, Bangladesh bowled Pakistan out for just 155 runs when they needed to restrict them as early as possible to reach the semifinal.

Being asked to bat, Pakistan started well but did not carry that long enough as they continuously started losing wickets from 37 runs. At one stage, lost their six batters in 89 runs.

Arafat Minhas, 34, and Shahzaib Khan, 26, made sure their innings crossed the 150 mark.

Rohanat Doullah Borson and Sheikh Paevez Jibon bagged four wickets each for Bangladesh.
