Bangladesh now directs school closure if max temp below 10 degrees Celsius

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Tuesday changed its directive to close secondary-level educational institutions in districts if the maximum temperature in the districts went under 10 degrees Celsius.
In a notice issued earlier in the afternoon, it directed to close secondary-level educational institutions in districts if the maximum temperature in the districts goes under 17 degrees Celsius.
The government changed the decision in the evening and issued a fresh notice.
In the fresh notice, the directorate said that a severe cold wave was now sweeping over different districts in Bangladesh.
It said that the directorate was receiving information that the cold wave was hampering normal activities of the students in parts of the country.
Following this, the notice said, the secondary level educational institutions would remain closed after discussion between the regional deputy directors and the district education officers in the districts where the maximum temperature would go under 10 degrees Celcius.
According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the department, in 24 hours ending 6:00am on Tuesday, recorded maximum temperature below 17 degrees Celsius in all the areas in Rajshahi division, all but two areas in Rangpur division, and one area in Khulna division.
But, the BMD recorded 10 degrees Celsius as maximum temperature in nowhere in the country during the period.
The BMD forecast said that night and day temperature might remain nearly unchanged over the country in 24 hours ending 9:00am on Wednesday.
