Bangladesh reports hospitalisation of 51 more dengue patients

Bangladesh desk: At least 51 dengue patients were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday, taking the total number of official hospitalisation with dengue to 1,579 since January.
Among the patients, 41 were hospitalised in Dhaka city and 10 in other places across the country, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.
A total of 490 or 31.03 per cent of this year’s dengue hospitalisation were reported in the first 14 days of July, showing a rising trend of dengue infections. The trend was noticed analysing the previous month’s data.
The dengue hospitalisation saw a sharp increase in June with the onset of monsoon as 737 dengue patients were hospitalised in the month alone this year, followed by 163 in May, 23 in April, 20 in February and March each and 126 in January, according to the official data.
A total of 179 dengue patients are still undergoing treatment at different health facilities on the day, with 139 of them being in Dhaka and 40 others outside Dhaka, said the release.
A lone dengue patient died in the capital in June this year, the official data showed.
A total of 1,372 or 86.89 per cent of the dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city since January this year.
The health directorate in a pre-monsoon survey found a higher density of Aedes mosquito in Dhaka in April this year compared to that in 2021, and predicted a worsening dengue situation unless preventive steps were taken.
