Bangladesh: Journalist Peer Habibur Rahman dies

Bangladesh desk: Senior journalist and executive editor of the Daily Bangladesh Pratidin, Peer Habibur Rahman, died while undergoing treatment a private hospital in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.Peer Habibur breathed his last at about 4:00pm while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Lab Aid Specialized Hospital in the city, said the newspaper’s chief reporter Manjurul Islam.
Earlier, he suffered a stroke while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Friday evening and was shifted to the ICU of Labaid Hospital.
Peer Habibur had been working for Bangladesh Pratidin since 2011. He was the executive editor of the newspaper until the death.
The journalist was the editor of online news portal Purba-Poshchim. He was known as political analyst, columnist and talk show guest.
Peer Habibur was born on February 16, 1964 in Sunamganj district.
The journalist suffered from cancer and got recovered through bone marrow transplant in a hospital in Mumbai in India in October 2021, the newspaper reported in its website.
He was tested positive for Covid on January 22 and underwent treatment at Lab Aid Specialized Hospital and later tested negative for Covid.
Peer Habibur was later admitted into BSMMU as he was suffering from kidney complexities.
He suffered a stroke on Friday and was shifted to Lab Aid Hospital again.
