Bangladesh sees 185 deaths from Covid, 8,772 new cases

Bangladesh desk: Bangladesh witnessed 185 more Covid deaths and 8,772 cases in 24 hours ending Saturday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 16,189 and infections to 10,09,315.

The case positivity rate across the country has also been more than 30 per cent for the past few days and reached to 31.46 per cent on the day.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

Among the deceased, 121 are male and 64 are female patients.

A total of 27,884 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country in the past 24 hours.

A total of 5,755 Covid patients recovered from the viral disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 868,139.

A total of 144 died in public hospitals, 28 in private hospitals, 12 died at their homes and another was brought dead, according to the government statistics.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths of 70 people in the past 24 hours while the lowest Covid deaths of three persons were logged in Mymensingh.

Besides, 51 Covid patients died in Khulna, 20 in Chattogram, 13 in Rajshshi, 11 in Rangpur, 10 in Barishal and seven patients died in Sylhet division, according to DGHS statistics.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death then day later on March 18, 2020.
