93pc fully vaccinated people develop antibody against Covid-19: Study

Online desk: A new study, released by Dhaka Medical College Hospital, on Sunday found that 93 per cent of fully vaccinated people developed antibody against Covid-19 in two weeks after being administered the vaccine, AstraZeneca-Covishield vaccine.
41 per cent of those who received a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine developed antibody in their blood four weeks after the administration of the vaccine, said the study conducted by DMCH’s microbiology department.
‘The study confirms that antibody is growing after vaccination, giving us a hope to fight against the Covid-19,’ microbiology department chairman SM Shamsuzzaman, who led the study, told New Age.
The study was conducted on 308 blood samples, 80 per cent of which was collected from teachers, 10 per cent from DMCH staff and the rest from medical officers and others.
However, the study did not look into the efficacy of the vaccine in preventing Covid-19.
The Directorate General of Health Services supported the study.
Bangladesh fully vaccinated over 42.83 lakh people with the AstraZeneca-Covishield vaccine while about 15 lakh others had received only one dose.
Bangladesh is currently administering Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine and Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to a limited number of people.
